Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 9 Year 2019 Concerning Marine Accident Investigation: Legal Consequence to the Ship Owner/operator in the Marine Accident Investigation

The President of the Republic of Indonesia on the date of 22 February 2019 enacted Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 9 Year 2019 concerning Marine Accident Investigation (“GR 9/2019”), which extends the authority for Harbourmaster and Admiralty Court and at the same time revokes all previous regulations concerning marine accident investigation.
GR 9/2019 also clarifies the position of the ship owner/operator in the event of marine accident investigation while also strengthening the legal certainty of the implementation of marine safety as mandated by the Law Number 17 Year 2008 concerning Shipping (“Law 17/2008”).
